Location: Neo Faliro, Athens
Surface: 9.600 s.m.
Supervision: 2013 - 2016
Client: Public Power Corporation S.A. Hellas

The objective of the project is the restoration of the former Steam Power Plant of Neo Faliro, which is the first power station in Greece, dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. The powerhouse consists of tree longitudinal parts, forms the centrepiece of a building complex, owned by the Public Power Corporation S.A. Hellas, and has been declared as a "listed" monument of industrial heritage by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. Nowadays, the building is scheduled to be reused as a Museum of Electric Power. Due to the architectural, historic and technological value of the monument, the proposal was composed based on the need for minimum and reversible interventions. The challenge throughout the design, has been to adapt the building shell to the requirements of the new use, without fundamentally altering its character. As regards the external view of the monument, the facades are restored and a number of later additions are removed in order to reveal its original form. Inside, each one of the proposed exhibition areas, corresponds to a different functional part of the former use. Besides this, most of the technological equipment is preserved in situ, so as to maintain the heavy industrial feel of the building and the original patterns of circulation and activity, emphasizing on the educational character of the museum.
