The project is about the design of the Archaeological Museum in Messara, on the island of Crete. The building would function both as exhibition space and cultural centre. Therefore the synthetic proposal was based on the creation of two main functional areas. The challenge for the design has been to create a new building that harmonizes with its surroundings, yet has its own integrity and presence. The "synthesis" forms a sample of contemporary architecture, thus, includes references to the principles of local architectural tradition, so as to integrate the museum in the Cretan built and natural environment.
