New Acheloos river bridge
Location: Astakos - Platygiali
Surface: Total Length: 175 m
Supervision: 2009
Client: Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works

The bridge serves the traffic needs of Astakos-Platygiali road over the Acheloos river.
The deck width is 14.50m, consisting of 47.5+80+47.5m, while the footings height is 6m.
The bridge structural system indicates pre-stressed box-girder deck with external cantilever beams, supported on the piers via high damping rubber bearings (HDRB). The foundation is formed with piers on one riverside and with spread foundation to the other, due to the different soil characteristics encountered.
The bridge is constructed according to the symmetric balanced cantilever method from each pier, while the cantilevers restraint during the construction stages is achieved through special design of the bearings as well as by using steel scaffolding.
