Restoration of Byzantine masonry bridge
Location: Municipality of Farkadona
Surface: Total Length: 31 m
Supervision: 2006
Client: Municipality of Farkadona

The existing masonry bridge serves the pedestrians crossing over the river.
The deck width is 3.40m, consisting of three spans of lengths 7.10+8.00+7.10m, while the piers thickness is 3.85m. The bridge is founded on solid masonry foundations on the river bed.
The bridge has been abandoned since many years and the pathology is related to significant disasters mostly on the arch area and on the foundation area of the middle piers, due to the contact with water. At the aforementioned places cracks have been observed, while many stones have been detached from their initial position.
For the restoration immediate supporting measures are proposed, while the structural strength is regained through cracks repair, stone merging, grouting and mass homogenization.
